 Course Information

Visual information processing, particularly as it relates to academic performance is an integral part of optometric vision therapy.

After one has assured that proper ocular motor, binocular and accommodative function has been developed or rehabilitated, higher level cognitive and perceptual skills are needed.  There are principles to be followed in the development of perception.  These principles follow the laws of human development beginning with basic sensory motor function and are elaborated through time.

When deficits are found in the visual information processing realm, specific vision therapy procedures are prescribed and implemented.  Not only are problems found in the developing and developed child but information processing is also integral to the treatment of acquired brain injury such as stroke and trauma. This course specifically describes and demonstrates, in a workshop mode, numerous procedures to alleviate information processing deficits. This course is advanced and makes the assumption that the optometric team has the prerequisite skills in identifying the deficits of perception and cognition.
